Hi from Wicked Knitz, My first attempt at a fun new blog.
I love to knit, teach knitting, be around people that knit.
I learned as a child like most of you, from my grandmother, and occasionally would knit or crochet a scarf or blanket.
And then recently I found a new Knit shop nearby. I decided to take a class, and that's when I found my new passion. I met some of the greatest people, friends I will have forever, from that first class.
Since then, I have been knitting and selling fingerless mitts, to all my friends at work. And being asked regulary "can you make this for me".
My one friend has a special needs daughter, who is now 10 years old. She goes to a special school for Autistic children. He asked me to make the puzzle hat for her and her classmates, and we give back $5 to the school for every hat we sell. So far 12 hats have been sold, with more to come.
The fun part is my career is as a Sports TV camera operator. I live and work in a man's world, where they are all fascinated by the knitting I create at work.
Yes I will sit by the Zamboni before a Rangers game and work on my latest project.
But my biggest and newest passion with knitting is to teach others how to learn.
I have been helping my knit friends at the local grammer school, to teach knitting and fun with felting. Our students range from Kindergarten to 3rd graders. They are so much fun to be around, and they all enjoy it in different ways. Some just enjoy playing with the yarn, while others are completing projects.
After recently taking the CYC (Craft Yarn Council) teaching course at F.I.T. in NYC, I know this is more than a passion. I met some of the most amazing woman, all loving the craft and learning many ways to use that passion for a second career.
I will update and tell stories of the fun I encounter through the many projects and events I will be involved with through Knitting.
Wicked Knitz is a fun new name, hope it is enjoyable for you.
